Romantic Beach Getaways Who doesn’t want a romantic getaway every once in a while? Whether you are newlyweds or parents looking for time away from the kids, everybody appreciates a place where two people can enjoy their surroundings and each other. Two great places to experience such romantic beach vacation are Mission Beach near San Diego, California and the Kona Coast in Hawaii. Mission Beach sits on the center of a stretch of sand called The Strand, which runs from Mission Bay to the north end of Pacific beach. Over the years, virtually every type of person has called Mission Beach home and come here to unwind, relax, and have a good time. The San Diego Bay area offers the perfect romantic retreat. The resort there sports magical architecture and an island setting that is sure to provide the perfect backdrop for your romantic beach vacation. Besides its beautiful beach, Mission Beach also provides a natural setting for bicycling, surfing, tennis, boogie boarding, and just about any outdoor activity. If you are in for a more active vacation, there is bound to be something new here for you to try. Mission Beach’s boardwalk is another great place to visit, especially at night. There’s always a party somewhere on the boardwalk on a Friday or Saturday night, and then there’s also Belmont Park, where you can ride roller coasters and play games. During the day, the boardwalk is a great place to stroll with your loved one, taking in the sights and smells until you find that perfect patch of white sand where you can have a picnic. Hawaii’s Kona Coast, located on the “Big Island,” is a true tropical island paradise. When you’re on the Kona Coast, it’s hard to believe that you’re still in the United States. Kona, the city at the heart of the Kona Coast, is a popular tourist attraction yet has so many options that you can still have a romantic beach vacation. The Kona Coast was once the home of Hawaiian royalty, and now this former home of kings and queens can host your romantic beach vacation. One great beach in the area is Kamakahonu Beach. Here you can spend your day laying in the sun on the white sand and swimming in the calm, sapphire blue water. The beach is fairly uncrowded and you can find great spots for snorkeling and canoing. In addition to the usual beach activities, there are also plenty of daily trips and other activities. More active couples may also enjoy hiking or horseback riding. Two other must-sees in Kona are the Kailua Pier and Ali’I Drive. Kailua Pier is in the city center and allows you to survey the surrounding area and witness some of the most beautiful sunsets you’ll ever behold. Ali’I Drive is the “main drag” of the city and runs along the oceanfront. Here is where you’ll find most of the restaurants, hotels, and shops of Kona. So if you’re looking for a romantic beach location—either to get away from your kids or everybody else’s kids—try Mission Beach or the Kona Coast. Either location will provide you with a great place to enjoy the atmosphere and your loved one’s company.
